How to know if you've really won Publishers Clearing House

is publishers clearing house a scam

Normally, you cannot get in contact with them without at least a half an hour of phone tree and wait time. Second, departments of taxation don't make courtesy calls. The fact is that Publishers Clearing House will never contact major prize winners to let you know that you have won money. When PCH fans win big, we show up at their house unannounced, cameras rolling, so that we can capture their big moment. PCH will not contact you via social media, phone call, text message, or similar means of outreach. I have received numerous calls/messages from scammers acting as PCH to tell me I won the Grand Prize.

What is a 'Golden Harvest' prize?

It is a fake check and did not come from the real PCH. Thank you, we want you to know that PCH partners with the Federal Trade Commission and the information we gather from you today will be shared with them which is then shared with law enforcement authorities around the country. Reporting a sweepstakes imposter scam to Publishers Clearing House is easy.

Were You the Victim of a PCH Sweepstakes Scam?

If you’re asked to pay anything to claim your winnings, you’re dealing with a PCH scam. But the whole thing is a setup to get you to either send them money (or gift cards) or disclose enough sensitive information to enable them to steal your identity and empty your bank account. The sad truth is that big winners can easily lose good money when it comes to sweepstakes scams, especially if they don't pause a bit and pay attention to any of the red flags along the way.

For Consumers

Logos can be copied, names of legitimate PCH employees can be found on Google, signatures can be forged... You need to be familiar with the real signs of a PCH prize win. The user later appeared to confirm getting out of the situation ok. If you receive any communication claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House, do your due diligence. Contact the company directly and make sure you’re not getting scammed. Even if you’re not asked to pay upfront, there are other red flags to look out for when dealing with a fake PCH award. Aura’s app keeps you safe from scams, fraud, and identity theft.

If you win a major prize in our sweepstakes, the PCH Prize Patrol will contact you in person. For smaller prizes (usually less than $10,000.00), winners are notified by overnight delivery services (FedEx, UPS), certified mail, or email in the case on online giveaways. That's why it's important to be able to tell the difference between a legitimate prize win and a sweepstakes scam. In reality, the “agent” is a scam artist who will try to convince you to give up personal data in exchange for your winnings.

She would get no information from me, but I would pass her concern on to our payroll department to see if they were filing the payroll for our remote employees correctly. Apparently, some state government agencies really do call you if they want their tax revenue. In 2018, Publishers Clearing House was hit with yet another lawsuit for email subject lines that ensnared people, especially the elderly, into thinking they were sweepstakes winners.

They say it over and over buying will not increase chances of winning. I get this one (PCH) at least once a week and it is always the same story "call Mr xxxxx " to claim your winnings and pay the $500 Dollar processing fee. A spoofed website looks like the official PCH entry form.

Older Adults and Fraud: What You Need To Know

If you are not experienced, a scam can seem legitimate. “Scammers are pretending to be Publishers Clearing House and tricking people into sending them money,” the FTC says on its website. If you believe your Publishers Clearing House mailing has run afoul of any of these two laws, you can file a complaint with the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. And, if you wired money to a prize scammer via Western Union between January 1, 2004 and January 19, 2017, you might be eligible for a refund. PCH agreed to the proposed court order that requires the company to turn over $18.5 million to the FTC.

Golden Harvest is not a real giveaway or terminology that Publishers Clearing House has ever used in its promotions. We hope this information was helpful and successfully protects you from any potential PCH impersonator scams (and other types of internet scams) that you may encounter. The info will then be shared with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the US Postal Service, and police and law enforcement officials to help put an end to the scam. With this understanding of different PCH impersonator scams, how to spot them, and how to avoid getting caught in one, the only thing left is to learn how to report a Publishers Clearing House impersonator scam. At Publishers Clearing House we do not notify major prize winners by e-mail. First I need to inform you that you did not hear from the real Publishers Clearing House. PCH would never request that you send money to claim a prize and we never notify major prize winners by phone or email. The information you provide is entered into our PCH Scam database which we share with the Federal Trade Commission. Their database is then shared with law enforcement authorities around the country. If you receive a telephone call from someone claiming you have won a sweepstakes prize and are asked to send money — STOP — you have not heard from a legitimate sweepstakes company.

PCH is Fighting Back Against Fraud!

If you believe you are eligible for a refund, there is nothing you need to do. When we have more information about the refund program, we will post updates here and provide information directly to consumers who are eligible for a refund. The FTC’s complaint charges that where PCH included disclaimers or clarifying information on shopping pages, it was in small, light font, below the “call to action” buttons, and overlooked by consumers. On that note, let’s take a moment to talk about the kinds of PCH impersonator scams that our fans might encounter.

A Message From our Partners at The Federal Trade Commission

Publishers Clearing House began in 1953 as a service that hawked magazine subscriptions. Responding to competitors, the company began to entice homeowners by offering them “sweepstakes” — chances to win tens of thousands and then millions of dollars. As it stands, there are several types of PCH impersonator scams that fraudsters will utilize. On that note, let’s take a look at how to stay safe against potential PCH impersonator scams. Publishers Clearing House works diligently to fight scams, both by working with law enforcement officials and through public education.

Skip the scams as you look for options to avoid foreclosure

If you comply, the scammer will invent more obstacles that you need to clear before you can claim your prize  — such as sending money, information, or both. Instead, the complaint charges, consumers enter an arduous journey through pages of advertisements and sales pitches before they can actually enter the sweepstakes. Recently, I had a woman with a thick foreign accent call me claiming to be from another state's Department of Revenue. She said we had failed to file our quarterly tax payment for the past two quarters. If I would just provide the information to her, she would make sure it was filled in properly. She raised so many red flags that I suspected she was a scam.

Follow us on social media

This can be done in a couple of different ways. I recieved two messages from "PCH" and kept them on my answerinng machine so my friends could be aware. Names you've come to know and recognize such as Dave Sayer, Howie Guja and Danielle Lam — all real members of our famous PCH Prize Patrol.

As our fans well know, Publishers Clearing House is a famous brand notorious for handing out massive sums of money. Unfortunately, because PCH is such a recognizable name tied to big-money winners, this dynamic lends itself to different Publishers Clearing House impersonator scams and swindlers using our good name. Or that doing so would improve their chances of winning a prize. PCH appears to be a scam, but it may have employees who are using the names and phone numbers of their game players to tell them they have won a big prize, but the winner will have to pay the first year's taxes! These people always have eastern European accents, speak in the upper register of voice (higher frequencies), refer to themselves as "Mr" with a "Waspy" like "Brown," "Smith," "Johnson," etc.

Publishers Clearing House (PCH) does NOT make or authorize outgoing calls to consumers to sell merchandise or magazines, or to solicit sweepstakes entries. Our major winners are notified by mail or in person (at our option) and we never phone ahead to disclose that someone has won a major prize. The call you received was most likely from a fraudulent sweepstakes scam operation. At Publishers Clearing House the winning is always free.

No one can prevent all identity theft or monitor all transactions effectively. Further, any testimonials on this website reflect experiences that are personal to those particular users, and may not necessarily be representative of all users of our products and/or services. We do not claim, and you should not assume, that all users will have the same experiences.

They may even send you a check for partial payment and they may ask you to send part of it back. The BBB says Publishers Clearing House  will never ask you to pay them money. But more scammers now text as a way to get around some new rules on robocalls and the improved technology. Robotexts aren't covered by the federal law that went into place June 30, 2021. Many of the scammers, though, aren't being caught and consumers are out the cash.

18 Best Breweries in Los Angeles for Craft Beer

house of brewers

For a more classic IPA, their flagship Mayberry IPA is a perfectly West Coast hop-bomb, highlighting Mosaic hops. One of the best, their Coffee Porter, is an excellent example of this less-than-hyped style. Roasty, and bitter, but rich and balanced, the porter is a refreshing black beer with notes of chocolate and vanilla.

If you choose to visit their Long Beach location, you can also partake in their excellent BBQ fare and also find some unique, barrel-aged sours from their nearby Blendery. Ohana Brewing Co.'s actual brewery may be located in a Downtown warehouse, but its tasting room is far from industrial, and far from the actual brewery. This family-run operation—which first began in a garage in 2014—now slings 10 incredible beers at its Alhambra storefront, on which a "Ohana Brewing Co" sign is inked in Hawaiian-inspired script. The broad offerings include Tiki on the Beach, a tropical blonde ale infused with hibiscus cranberry; No Sleepy Time, a coffee stout; and a Spa Water Saison with cucumber and lemongrass. This Lincoln Heights spot is frequently crowded thanks to its ample indoor-outdoor hangout space, quality brews (and cider), ongoing events and parties, and wide range of pop-up food nights. The Arts District’s 17,000-square-foot playland of a brewery has it all with over 30 beers on tap, a full bar, dartboards, skee ball, cornhole sets, and a ping pong table.

Carving out its own style in Downtown L.A., Mumford Brewing has amassed a loyal following with its dedication to the craft. Brothers Todd and Peter Mumford started their small family brewery and taproom in 2015. In the heart of Pomona’s quaint downtown, the nano-brewery started as a Kickstarter baby but has grown into a formidable member of the Los Angeles beer scene.

Back in 2017 and 2018, the GENE SIMMONS BAND played a number of shows with a lineup that consisted of Simmons alongside guitarist/bassist Jeremy Asbrock, guitarist Ryan Cook, guitarist Phil Shouse and drummer Brent Fitz. The GENE SIMMONS BAND played a number of KISS classics alongside covers of MOTÖRHEAD's "Ace Of Spades" and LED ZEPPELIN's "Communication Breakdown". Simmons's KISS bandmate, guitarist Tommy Thayer, came up on stage for "Parasite" and "Lick It Up".

The taproom features large indoor and outdoor spaces and there’s a food truck weekday evenings and starting from 1 pm on the weekends. The taproom also showcases artworks from local and international artists and they launch a new Artist Series beer with an artist-created label every six to eight weeks. Los Angeles county is home to over 90 breweries, crafting everything from hazy IPAs to barrel-aged sours, and new ones keep popping up. Brewers Guild collectively took home 31 medals at the 2021 California Craft Brewers Cup and five at the 2021 Great American Beer Festival.

Try the wine barrel-aged Haiku De Saison, a mixed-fermentation Saison with delicate tart funkiness and subtle oak. Unlike some of the more established breweries in the South Bay or downtown L.A., most of the breweries in the greater East L.A. Many opened for business during or after the pandemic closures, which saw new or fledgling local craft breweries turn to canning and to-go sales to stay afloat until customers could be welcomed back into taprooms. The basic unit of Manor Lords’ workforce is the family, and families need a place to live. It’s a place for a family to build a house (or two), but it’s also a place for them to start a side hustle that benefits your town. Now, with nearly 100 breweries, beer in Los Angeles is beginning to enter the conversation for best on the West Coast. The city’s infinite sprawl houses a diverse range of young breweries looking to secure Los Angeles as a premier beer city in the U.S. Here’s a guide to the local breweries of the emerging craft beer scene in Greater East L.A., alphabetically by city. These new breweries reflect a growing diversity in the groups that make, drink and enjoy craft beer. Many have already enmeshed themselves in local communities, often supporting nonprofit organizations, local artists, fundraising causes and collective efforts through special brewery collaborations.

Where to Drink Beer in LA This Summer

This includes “Greater El Monte” and other parts of the San Gabriel Valley down to Southeast L.A. It all started with a visit to a brewery in Washington with my grandpa when I was just 3. If you do visit, you’ll find yourself in a gorgeous garden space with soft sand gulfs, wooden benches, and firepits. But if you want to truly drink in Benny Boy, go for the Snakebite—half beer and half cider in a glass.

Fruity, with balanced acidity, the mix of savory herbs adds earthiness and intrigue. Highland Park is committed to ensuring only the highest quality beer leaves their brewery. Hello, LA – hopped with the classic duo of Citra and Mosaic – is a modern take on West Coast IPA. Bright, and juicy, but with a firm bitterness, it’s drinkable and timeless.

Benny Boy just lends itself well for inviting a bunch of friends or family out for a night. With both cider and beer on tap, everyone can drink their favorites and the warm, charming space means you never really want to leave. So when we hear about a taproom that brews both beer and cider, well, our ears perk up. Think complex but highly drinkable takes on Belgian-style beers and pilsners—such as Time Scoop and the aforementioned Popfuji.

Better still, the brewery is also now home to New York City’s Emmy Squared, one of the country’s most well-known craft pizza operations. When you place a burgage plot, you’ll place four points for a flexible plot. The first two points will set the street-facing side by default (but you can change this after) and then automatically divide the plot into a maximum number of burgage plots.

If you make the plot deeper (longer along the side leading back from the road), you’ll add an extension slot — effectively a backyard. Only vegetable gardens and (after you spend a development point on it) orchards are affected by the size of the extension — bigger yards equals more space for a garden. The various workshops and even livestock like chickens and goats don’t seem to be affected by the size. Our Manor Lords burgage plot guide will explain these mixed-use plots of land, from how to set them up through upgrading them — including all the infrastructure you’ll need to build for those upgrades. They’re where your town’s families build houses, they generate income for your treasury, and they’re also how you’ll build a number of important workshops in backyard extensions. Our home in the Los Angeles Arts District is both brewery and canvas, the center of a revival for the city’s artists.

That’s not counting the brewpubs, craft beer bars and gastropubs that populate the map and add to a growing list of tap offerings around town. Since 2015, a proliferation of breweries opening in places like San Gabriel, Montebello and Whittier has closed the gaps and put the greater Eastside on L.A.’s craft beer map. According to the Los Angeles Brewers Guild, there are 95 breweries and 111 designated destinations producing more than 5,000 unique beers in 4,751 square miles. While that’s still not as many as San Diego, it is plenty to choose from, leaving craft beer drinkers here with one less thing to defend (don’t get us started on the whole comparing L.A. to New York City). Situated across the street from Los Angeles State Historic Park, Highland Park Brewery is a lovely spot to sit on a patio with a craft beer in hand.

Focusing on quality rather than the latest craft beer trends, Smog City has built a reputation for beautifully crafted beers. Their IPAs certainly are some of the best in the U.S., and their reputation is well-deserved. Still, though, they’ve continued brewing a core range of Belgian-inspired ales.

Regardless, that is a lot of space in Southern California for a brewery to set up shop. Was considered a second-rate beer option to San Diego’s overwhelming number of breweries. On the opposite corner from Highland Park Brewery in Chinatown is where you’ll find the second location of Homage Brewing. They’re known for their saisons and a good place to start is the Saison Spritz line of Belgian Saison-fruited beers (the current summer saison is made with watermelon and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes). The vibe during the day is chill, but the outdoor biergarten at the Chinatown location has a small dance floor that stays packed at night thanks to their own resident DJ. The only place to buy Monkish is from the taproom, so to Torrance (and their outpost out in Anaheim) you shall go.

With a vegetable garden (see above), you’ll get some food, but you’ll need to supplement it with a hunting camp (no construction cost) and a forager hut (1 timber). For the best classic West Coast IPA in Los Angeles, look no further than El Segundo. They’ve been specializing in hoppy and clean West Coast flavors since 2011. Along with Smog City, El Segundo is seen as an important leader of the modern L.A. In brewery terms, we can use “Greater Eastside” to describe those neighborhoods and cities that span roughly east of the Los Angeles River to the 57, bordered by the 10 to the north and Imperial Highway to the south.

Asian Brothers Brewing Company

It’s always a pro move to place an order — especially the fairly new Chicano eatery SolRad — and order Honest Abe’s Mexican lollipop brew with watermelon and spice. This cult-favorite craft brewer has been cultivating long lines and deep fandom for years, and since the pandemic began has turned its Torrance brewery space into a semi-shaded, cozy outdoor hangout. On top of it all, you’ll need to assign families to each of those tasks (you don’t need to assign a family to the church).

Los Angeles, CA was listed as having 35 breweries, which is quite a few. Sometimes a large number of breweries can lead to an active collecting community that will be willing to pay more for breweriana items than other collectors. Moving to their new Chinatown brewery and taproom in 2018, Highland Park has since exploded in popularity nationwide. Their beautiful new location, along with their original production brewery, allows them to reach a much wider audience.

house of brewers

Say less, get there, and order burgers, sandwiches, salads, or quesadillas. It also doubles the number of families that plot can support — meaning you’ll get two families for a regular plot or four for a plot with a living space expansion built. Once it’s constructed, you’ll have a burgage plot (Level 1), and a family will start moving in. If you’ve got the Regional Wealth, you can add a vegetable garden, chicken coop, or goat shed. Anaheim breweries are innovating while collaborating to make the local beer scene even better. Many local brewers are connected not just by their passion for suds, but by the La Palma Beer Trail.

Long Beach Beer Lab

And the beers churning out of this Highland Park spot have put it on the map with Southern California heavyweights such as Pizza Port, Homage, and Mumford. So buckle up, and pack enough layers to get you from the beach through those California cool nights—these are the seven best breweries in the Los Angeles region. And with that vehicle we suggest a very nice designated driver whom you can hand a kombucha to keep them satisfied, because we didn’t limit ourselves to Los Angeles city proper with this list. At one end of the Bixby Knolls beer corridor stands Ambitious Ales, which took over the space of an old camera shop. Their Central Perk Coffee beer won the gold at the 2021 California Craft Brewers Cup.

Common Space Brewery and Tasting Room

For an excellent entry into their world of mixed fermentation, try Muis, a Brett-fermented Belgian pale ale. Dry, funky, and refreshing, Muis is an expertly brewed blonde with notes of spice, citrus, and green apple. Despite being California’s biggest city, L.A.’s brewery scene lagged behind the state’s original craft beer hubs like San Diego and San Francisco.

This area is one of the few places in Southern California where you can easily walk from brewery to brewery. Over the years, Mumford has brewed the beers they want to make, never compromising on quality. Keeping their rotating production quite small, the cozy Downtown taproom always has something new to try. Check out their Box Logo series for lusciously creamy, juicy, and resinous hazy IPAs.

As if that wasn’t tempting enough, many breweries have added on above-average food programs and invited some of the city’s most exciting new pop-ups to take over their beer gardens, so you never have to drink on an empty stomach. MacLeod Ale owners Alastair and Jennifer Boase know a thing or two about "real" ale. The small-batch beers at this Van Nuys brewery are made with imported English grains, naturally carbonated, cask conditioned and served at cellar temperature straight from the casks they were fermented in. In addition to serving some of the best cask beers in L.A., the brewery also offers a vast selection of draft and nitro beers, as well as some of the Valley's finest pizza (the spinach artichoke is the staff special). For local beer drinkers, MacLeod provides a taste of something different in a laid-back, friendly atmosphere, and for British expats, it's one of the only spots in town to get a proper pint.

Little Spree, a Yorkshire-style pale ale, is a good place to start your re-education. This is an intimate spot on the northeast edge of Chinatown where bartenders draw the tap for hoppy and malty lagers or ales, saisons, and a small but excellent wine list. And for that, you’ll need at least one burgage plot (Level 2) with a brewery extension (5 Regional Wealth, 5 planks). That, in turn, will need a supply of barley either from a field and farmhouse (3 timber) or from importing it through a trading post.

You can take that beer or maybe the New Zealand Style Pilsner, Gandalf the Crisp filled with 100% Motueka Hops, into the backlot beer garden and order up a pie, wings, or garlic knots from nearby Thunderbolt Pizza. The sweeping architectural lines of this historic building help to tell a tale about adaptive reuse in Los Angeles. But the beers do their own talking, winning IPA awards and other accolades. On top of everything you built for the first round of upgrades, you’ll have to have a bit more industry running for this upgrade. You’ll probably need a stonecutter camp (2 timber) near a fieldstone deposit by this point.

Gluten Free Gingerbread House

gluten free gingerbread house

If you’re also reminiscing about the utter destruction of something so beautiful and yet so inedible, this is a post for you. After years (a decade?) hiatus, we decided that we should make a gingerbread house this year. A house so cozy and covered in marshmallow fluff snow even the frostiest holiday humbug would go misty-eyed at their first glance. We decided all of this at 2pm on a Sunday. Monday was not a holiday, which meant we had to get our stuff together by a reasonable adult bed time Sunday night.

But I was delighted to learn that there are two locations in L.A. – one in Larchmont Village, and one on Montana Ave near Santa Monica. Their baked goods are free from basically everything – gluten, refined sugar, dairy, egg, and they’re even vegan. In the US, injera is almost always cut with wheat flour, and if they do offer a gluten free option that is 100% teff, it’s prepared on the same equipment as the regular version. They make “Korean-inspired” bowls that are 100% gluten free, and 100% delicious. And they have plenty of plant-based options, including using Impossible Meats in their potstickers (which are also gluten free).

Gluten Free Gingerbread House Kits

You can make your own royal icing, the traditional icing of gingerbread houses. I had originally posted about gingerbread houses back in December of 2011 just a couple months after I started The Fit Cookie. One of our local bakeries was doing a gingerbread house contest so I jumped on board and created a gingerbread house scene complete with a rock path and a candy pond with Swedish fish.

Ugly Sweater Christmas Cookies

One-ingredient flour simply cannot replicate all that gluten does in a baked good, so gluten-free bakers started making their own blends to get good results. This recipe is adapted from the gluten-full recipe by Nordicware. It is a very forgiving recipe, and I have tweaked it over the years to get the best results with gluten-free flour. Then came Miss E’s celiac diagnosis shortly before Christmas, and I was determined (and still am) that she would not miss out on any of the childhood fun because of celiac disease. See recipe card for full ingredient list and quantities. I live in the same town as the National Gingerbread House competition, so naturally I started competing around 20 years ago.

You won’t be struggling with frosting “glue” while the house pieces fall and crack. The only limit to decoration is your imagination! I love to challenge myself to use things around the house. If you're looking for gluten free candy ideas, check out this list. Instead of using royal icing to assemble the house, use melted sugar! It is so easy to do, and yes, requires your attention, because melted sugar is very hot.

This gluten free gingerbread house kit is free from the top 9 allergens. It also has no artificial food dyes and uses no fructose corn syrup. It includes the pieces to make the house plus the icing and allergy-friendly candy.

Always consult with a doctor first before starting any new diet plan or routine. You really need to hold it in place for a few minutes. If you are unable, you can try to find something tall enough and wide enough to place under the roofline to prop up the roof piece while it dries. Pipe another ribbon of icing on the cardboard and one on the side of the back wall.

If you don't want to order the cookie cutters that I used, no worries. I've created a simple paper Gingerbread House Template for you to print out. They have a wide variety of baked goods aside from that gem, including a brioche au chocolat that is essentially a chocolate croissant. Plus a menu of breakfast and lunch sandwiches if you’re craving something a little more like real food.

It doesn’t need to be blog-worthy or magazine-worthy or anything else. With enough creativity and patience you can create the most spectacular of gingerbread houses. If you want the ultimate baking project you HAVE to give my gluten free gingerbread house recipe a go. Admittedly, it’s not as easy as opening a box, but it is really easy. The finished cake just sits there in one held-together piece while your kids decorate it.

Sit down in Honey Hi’s bright, inviting dining room for a gluten-free all-day experience in Los Angeles. That means everything, including the pancakes, toast, and sandwiches. Be sure to take in the creamy chive-flecked eggs served with buckwheat sourdough or the breakfast sandwich piled with caramelized fennel, onions, arugula, and avocado mash. Just about every dish can be ordered with meat or modified to be vegetarian or vegan-friendly.

You can find some ideas and inspiration for your gingerbread men – and what to make with any leftover dough – here. Simply whisk everything together for around 4-5 minutes to hydrate the egg white powder and you’ll have a lovely thick icing which sets hard. There are a couple of different ways you can make it – I’ve popped my favourite in the recipe card below. The decoration is what really makes this house something special and the Schär Gluten Free Spekulatius biscuits make the most beautiful roof tiles. All of these ingredients are really easy to find in the shops and you can pick up the Schär All Purpose Baking Mix in Asda, Waitrose and Ocado. If you want to get inventive and create porches, chimneys and doors then go-ahead, but I’m giving you the basics to create a simple yet delightful house.

This little bit of patience gives time for the starches in your flour blend to hydrate, rewarding you with a fluffier finished product. For the icing you will need powdered sugar, egg whites (or aquafaba) and cream of tartar. Once the sugar is a nice golden colour, dip the end you want to stick in it, like you would glue, and quickly press it against the piece you are sticking it too. For this small house, I dipped the end of a side wall in, glued it to the front of the house, then repeated that with the other side wall.

Pizzana’s chef Daniele Uditi has a reputation for his double zero flour pizza crusts and 48-hour fermentation process. Even if gluten-tolerant, pay attention to Pizzana’s gluten-free pies made with tapioca flour that bear a delicious flavor and solid consistency. It’s a $3 upcharge, but worth it to try any of the restaurant’s cult-favorite pizzas for dine-in or to take away and reheat at home. Ronnen says 90 percent of the menu can be made gluten-free. While the fried chicken sandwich is not gluten-free, opt for its gluten-free fried chicken sans bun (choosing from thighs, wings, and tenders).

It’s a great chance to let your creativity flow, it makes a wonderful decoration and it’s perfect or making with kids. And don’t worry, I’ve got a full step-by-step guide to help you – so whether you’re baking this in a day or over a weekend, you can’t go wrong. I promise it’s the most magical thing to bake and so much fun – the perfect festive activity. While one-ingredient flour, like almond flour or coconut flour, may have an important place in your kitchen, baked sweets are sadly not the place.

After a couple of “nailed it” fails, we landed on gluten-free gingerbread cakes, and have never looked back. This will make your life even easier – just cut out each shape and then use the templates to cut your house pieces from the gingerbread dough. I know a lot of people are intimidated by them, but it’s really much easier than you think! Although there are a few companies that sell gluten free gingerbread house kits, they aren’t always easy to find, and can cost quite a bit with shipping. But the truth is that it just doesn't matter that much.

I have a whole section is it gluten free? If you need substitution advice I created a ton of resources here. If you would like to add some gingerbread men to your holiday baking use these baking mixes. These baking mixes can also be used to make your own gingerbread house with a pattern you find online.

The only thing to watch out for is the bread on the sandwiches. Anyway, here’s those two gluten free restaurants in Los Angeles that aren’t 100% gluten free, but deserve to be on your list of stops on your trip. There are two other places that deserve a spot in this guide to gluten free LA, but are not 100% gluten free. Both places take measures to prevent cross-contamination, and can tell you what you can safely order. But, like I always say, always always always make sure you double check, because things change all the time. Planning a trip in the United States, but need to eat gluten free?

How to make a gluten free gingerbread house

We’ve written a bunch of in-depth travel guides to the best gluten free restaurants and bakeries in many of our favorite cities in the US to help you find the best places to eat. We loved Twice Baked, which is south of LA in Long Beach, CA. It’s in an unassuming strip mall, but don’t let the location fool you. Twice Baked makes some pretty incredible gluten free products, from breads and pizza crusts to our favorites, the bear claws and apple turnovers. We were eyeing the croissants, but were already full from earlier bakery stops. Karma Baker is a bakery in Westlake Village, which isn’t really in L.A., but it’s worth including in this list anyway.

Key ingredients

For those diagnosed with celiac disease — where gluten proteins found in ingredients like wheat trigger a damaging immune response — cooking at home can be safer than dining out. The same goes for people who are gluten intolerant or choose to avoid the ingredient for other health reasons. No matter which category, individuals need not struggle to find a wonderful gluten-free menu in Los Angeles. They’re about as prominent as one would expect, and these days, restaurants do far more than gluten-free baked goods including baked goods and Panamanian fried chicken on the Westside. Here is a guide to some of LA’s best gluten-free eating. For the candy stained glass windows in our old gingerbread house, we used the same method of melting candy into the windows except we used Jolly Ranchers instead of starlight mints.

The good news is that royal icing is naturally gluten free and actually very simple to make. It’s a really easy-to-use plain / All Purpose gluten free flour blend and a dream to work with. If you are using homemade frosting or buying frosting tubs, decorating bottles are easier for little hands to use than a piping bag.

This is one of the better places to find a gluten free lunch in Los Angeles. Despite having lived in San Francisco for almost a decade and having family near L.A., neither of us had really ever spent much time in Los Angeles. So when we were looking for a warm and sunny place to hunker down for a week or two, L.A. Popular to eat at both breakfast and lunch in Panama, fried chicken is a staple in this Central American country. Mon, chef José Olmedo Carles Rojas prepares his signature gluten-free drumsticks with a healthy dusting of roasted rice powder tinged green with scallions, mint, basil, and rosemary.

Royal Icing:

The first year I entered on a whim just two weeks before the deadline. After seeing the winning entries, I knew it was going to take a lot more than 2 weeks to create an entry worthy of this competition. The second year, I spent eight months working on my house. Yes, my house smelled like Christmas for basically the entire year.

Danielle Fahrenkrug is an entrepreneur, self taught chef, and food photographer turned 3x cookbook author. Her passions of helping others with healthy eating led her to becoming a certified health and nutrition life coach. She is also a wife, mother of four, and loves the beach, animals, and fitness. The time it takes to make the dough, assemble the house, and decorate means lots of talking and laughing. If you want to make some little gingerbread men to go with the house you will need some gingerbread man cookie cutters for these. Whichever royal icing you choose, as long as it is nice and thick (around the consistency of toothpaste) it should work.

Pipe a ribbon of icing along the edge of the gingerbread back wall. Decide where you want to place the house on the cardboard. Lay the back and one side of the gingerbread on the cardboard (face down). Use a ruler and pizza wheel to trim the edges of the dough.

A couple of years ago we thought it would be fun to try out these miniature gingerbread cakes. Pipe royal icing along the cardboard below the gingerbread pieces. This ribbon of royal icing helps hold the house up. Quickly slide the parchment, with the gingerbread pieces, onto a baking sheet. By sliding the parchment onto the baking sheet, you won’t disturb the cut outs, ensuring they are the correct shape for assembling your house later on in the process. No matter what it looks like, your gingerbread house will be perfect.

They use organic ingredients, and they use high-quality ingredients, free of gums, soy, and refined sugar. Which you can definitely taste in the finished product. Wow Bakes was perhaps my favorite discovery in LA. I had heard of most of the bakeries on this list beforehand, but Wow Bakes was one that I discovered either in LA, or right before we arrived. It’s a one woman operation – her name is Sharon – and she bakes all of the amazing sourdough baked goods herself in Santa Monica. Kirari West was our first stop in L.A., and it set a pretty high bar for all the other bakeries in L.A.

Then I had their double decker pesto burger, and I am all aboard the Powerplant train. It’ll be a unique gluten free dining experience that you won’t soon forget, and it’s a great introduction to Ethiopian cuisine. And I haven’t even gotten to the drinks yet!

Leave it alone and just enough the scent of gingerbread! There’s no wrong way to decorate a gingerbread house. If you put the roof on before the walls are dry, the entire house can fall apart. For my house, I wanted the back windowless. So for this piece, I used the same template I used for the front of the house but I didn’t cut in windows or a door.

You’ll need two pieces for the front and back, two side pieces and two roof pieces. Here’s a list of traditional-style gluten-free gingerbread house kits. It is similar to royal icing, but cookie icing will not give you the hard outer layer royal icing provides.
