Regardless, that is a lot of space in Southern California for a brewery to set up shop. Was considered a second-rate beer option to San Diego’s overwhelming number of breweries. On the opposite corner from Highland Park Brewery in Chinatown is where you’ll find the second location of Homage Brewing. They’re known for their saisons and a good place to start is the Saison Spritz line of Belgian Saison-fruited beers (the current summer saison is made with watermelon and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes). The vibe during the day is chill, but the outdoor biergarten at the Chinatown location has a small dance floor that stays packed at night thanks to their own resident DJ. The only place to buy Monkish is from the taproom, so to Torrance (and their outpost out in Anaheim) you shall go.

With a vegetable garden (see above), you’ll get some food, but you’ll need to supplement it with a hunting camp (no construction cost) and a forager hut (1 timber). For the best classic West Coast IPA in Los Angeles, look no further than El Segundo. They’ve been specializing in hoppy and clean West Coast flavors since 2011. Along with Smog City, El Segundo is seen as an important leader of the modern L.A. In brewery terms, we can use “Greater Eastside” to describe those neighborhoods and cities that span roughly east of the Los Angeles River to the 57, bordered by the 10 to the north and Imperial Highway to the south.

It’s always a pro move to place an order — especially the fairly new Chicano eatery SolRad — and order Honest Abe’s Mexican lollipop brew with watermelon and spice. This cult-favorite craft brewer has been cultivating long lines and deep fandom for years, and since the pandemic began has turned its Torrance brewery space into a semi-shaded, cozy outdoor hangout. On top of it all, you’ll need to assign families to each of those tasks (you don’t need to assign a family to the church).
Los Angeles, CA was listed as having 35 breweries, which is quite a few. Sometimes a large number of breweries can lead to an active collecting community that will be willing to pay more for breweriana items than other collectors. Moving to their new Chinatown brewery and taproom in 2018, Highland Park has since exploded in popularity nationwide. So buckle up, and pack enough layers to get you from the beach through those California cool nights—these are the seven best breweries in the Los Angeles region. This area is one of the few places in Southern California where you can easily walk from brewery to brewery. Over the years, Mumford has brewed the beers they want to make, never compromising on quality. Keeping their rotating production quite small, the cozy Downtown taproom always has something new to try. Check out their Box Logo series for lusciously creamy, juicy, and resinous hazy IPAs.
As if that wasn’t tempting enough, many breweries have added on above-average food programs and invited some of the city’s most exciting new pop-ups to take over their beer gardens, so you never have to drink on an empty stomach. MacLeod Ale owners Alastair and Jennifer Boase know a thing or two about "real" ale. The small-batch beers at this Van Nuys brewery are made with imported English grains, naturally carbonated, cask conditioned and served at cellar temperature straight from the casks they were fermented in. In addition to serving some of the best cask beers in L.A., the brewery also offers a vast selection of draft and nitro beers, as well as some of the Valley's finest pizza (the spinach artichoke is the staff special). For local beer drinkers, MacLeod provides a taste of something different in a laid-back, friendly atmosphere, and for British expats, it's one of the only spots in town to get a proper pint.
Little Spree, a Yorkshire-style pale ale, is a good place to start your re-education. This is an intimate spot on the northeast edge of Chinatown where bartenders draw the tap for hoppy and malty lagers or ales, saisons, and a small but excellent wine list. And for that, you’ll need at least one burgage plot (Level 2) with a brewery extension (5 Regional Wealth, 5 planks). That, in turn, will need a supply of barley either from a field and farmhouse (3 timber) or from importing it through a trading post.
You can take that beer or maybe the New Zealand Style Pilsner, Gandalf the Crisp filled with 100% Motueka Hops, into the backlot beer garden and order up a pie, wings, or garlic knots from nearby Thunderbolt Pizza. The sweeping architectural lines of this historic building help to tell a tale about adaptive reuse in Los Angeles. But the beers do their own talking, winning IPA awards and other accolades. On top of everything you built for the first round of upgrades, you’ll have to have a bit more industry running for this upgrade. You’ll probably need a stonecutter camp (2 timber) near a fieldstone deposit by this point.
