7-Day Alaska Cruise from Seattle

Every breathtaking view will provide a postcard-worthy moment, creating memories that will last a lifetime. So, buckle up for the ultimate Alaskan adventure that you've always dreamed of. Carnival's mid-sized cruise ships provide a good balance of activities to suit both kids and adults, although some are at an additional cost, such as the Seuss-themed brunch and Deal or No Deal game show. With little significant differences between the ships (beyond age), itineraries and prices may be the bigger driver when booking the ultimate Alaska cruise vacation. They have a good number of itineraries sailing the Inside Passage, but they don’t offer one-way cruises with land tours. However, these Inside Passage cruises can be a great introduction to Alaska cruising with a balance of fun things to do onboard in renovated ships.

Night Carnival Journeys - 10-day Alaska CruiseDetails

In fact, a Carnival cruise might just be the best cheap cruise to Alaska that money can buy. Carnival Cruise Line has long been the value leader in cruising -- industry speak for "cheap", or "affordable". But rather than being cheap in the negative sense, a Carnival cruise is merely economical, a value-priced cruise that offers a lot of bang for your vacation buck. For the nature lover, you can go on the Whales, Wildlife & Bear Search, or the Whale and Wildlife Cruise. Engage in a boutique excursion that combines a gentle guided walk with marine exploration. Passengers can also visit Alaska’s top three attractions with a whales-guaranteed cruise, viewing the Mendenhall Glacier, and participating in a salmon bake.

Cruise Itinerary

However, what really sets Carnival cruises apart are their attentive stewards, comfortable staterooms, and fresh, colorful décor. These ships still offer lots of fun entertainment and activities that Carnival is famous for, like waterparks, slides, family venues, adult areas, and much more. All of Carnival’s ships sailing to Alaska are part of the cruise line’s Spirit Class, built in the early 2000s.

But Carnival's greatest asset is the hardworking, friendly crew aboard Carnival Spirit. The ship feels nearly full, yet not understaffed (at least compared to 2019). And I'd forgotten how soft and welcoming the beds in Carnival's staterooms are, across all cabin categories. While passengers won't find Alaskan beers onboard -- or even Alaskan seafood, for that matter, Carnival has managed to tweak some of its entertainment programming to offer a more Alaskan bent. Best of all, Carnival's crewmembers are kind, friendly, and take great pains to address you by name and remember your favorite drinks, meal preferences, or likes. It isn't formal (you can expect to be called by your first name, and not Mr. or Ms. So-And-So), but it is genuine -- and consistent.

Is Alaska Still Having Shore Excursion Issues?

But Carnival is still good for couples, adults and solo travelers looking for a more subdued experience. Carnival's onboard Alchemy Bar mixes up some of the best custom-cocktails at sea, while food served in the dining room is a notch or two above what you might expect and compares well to the cuisine served on Holland America and Princess. Naturally, you'll want to drink, eat, and do all the things that are on offer -- and doing so on a Carnival cruise to Alaska isn't as expensive as some other mainstream lines. But during Cruise Critic's recent sailing to Alaska aboard the 2,124 passenger Carnival Spirit, we discovered Carnival has a lot to offer those looking to cruise Alaska.

And despite the high cost, bucket-list items like flightseeing tours were some of the first to go. In Skagway, veteran local entertainer and businessowner Steve Hites came onboard to perform his "Skagway in Story and Song" show before our ship left port. Hites regularly offers this performance on other lines, including Princess and Holland America, and it's nice to see him here onboard Carnival Spirit as well. Given its value-driven price point, we wouldn't have expected Carnival to offer much in the way of destination immersion aboard Carnival Spirit. While its offerings aren't as elaborate as more upscale sister brand Holland America Line, we were pleasantly thrilled to see Carnival employ an onboard naturalist named Chris on our sailing.

Day 5: Skagway

But the fact remains that Carnival has long offered a small assortment of Alaskan cruises. Cruising aboard Carnival Spirit will elevate your holiday at sea, to that unforgettable trip you will be longing to relive. You’ll be on a ship that’s nearly the length of three footy fields and 12 decks tall of things to do, see, taste and try.

Carnival Cruises to Alaska

Whether you’re after an action-packed holiday or just want to relax and unwind, you can create the type of cruise holiday you want. We've only seen onboard lecturers aboard smaller, expedition-style vessels or luxury vessels. Aside from the park rangers that come aboard ships in Glacier Bay National Park, onboard naturalists on big ships are a rare breed, in danger of dying out with long-gone events like trap shooting with a bridge officer and the midnight "Chocoholic" buffet.

Explore the wilderness at Tracy Arm, which is near the breathtaking Sawyer Glaciers. You can also leave the city behind and explore Alaska’s remote glaciers by helicopter. Fine out what are the best Carnival cruises to Alaska in 2022, including the Carnival Freedom and Carnival Miracle.

So, while the cruise fares have great advertised prices, add-ons should be considered when budgeting a cruise to Alaska. Since there are quite a few different options for a Carnival cruise to the Land of the Midnight Sun, here is a breakdown of what you need to know when picking Carnival for an unforgettable Alaska cruise vacation. When we say that Carnival Miracle takes you to another world, we mean that in every sense. Not only does this ship visit stunning destinations, but features incredible onboard spaces inspired by elements of fantasy. Escape from reality as you take in a show at the Phantom Lounge or a dance at Dr. Frankenstein's Lab. You'll find great food all over the place, from the casual fare of Horatio's to the artful eats of the Bacchus and Ariadne dining rooms...

Shore excursion operators in Alaska are currently stretched to the max; all it takes is one motorcoach driver calling in sick to throw the entire day's program off track. Operators and cruise lines are doing their best to keep things running smoothly, but as with anything these days, staffing in Alaska does remain a problem that cruisers should be aware of. Carnival is, like every other cruise line, having some issues in Alaska with shore excursions needing to be modified or changed or, in some cases, canceled entirely due to tour operator staffing availability. Moreover, both tours were completely sold out, with two boats chartered for each departure.
