Ted Wright was a sales representative for a Toronto newspaper and had fallen in love with the resort. Arthur Minett was determined to sell the hotel outside the family and he found his buyer in his friend Wright. Wright’s goal was to modernize Clevelands House, enlarging the rooms and landscaping the grounds — bringing the hotel up to the 1950s standards that were being set around Muskoka. While the Minetts had aimed their services at a distinctly middle-aged clientele, Wright decided to appeal to the party and convention crowds, obtaining a liquor licence and marketing a “young” image to patrons. It was during this time that Bob Cornell became manager of the resort.
